Because reaching out for support is not a sign of weakness. It is often one of the strongest, most self-aware things a person can do.
There is still a quiet belief that exists in many people’s minds:
“If I need support, it means something is wrong with me.”
Or:
“I should be able to handle this on my own.”
If you’ve ever thought something like this, you’re not alone.
But I want to gently offer a different perspective.
Because reaching out for support is not a sign of weakness.
It is often one of the strongest, most self-aware things a person can do.
The belief that we should cope alone
Many of us grow up with the idea that being “strong” means handling everything ourselves.
Pushing through.
Keeping going.
Not asking for help.
But in reality, this often leads to people carrying far more than they need to - silently and for far too long.
Struggle becomes normalised.
And support gets delayed.
Not because people don’t need it… but because they’ve been taught to believe they shouldn’t.
Strength isn’t about doing everything alone
Real strength is not about never struggling.
And it’s not about never needing support.
Real strength is being honest with yourself about where you are - and choosing to do something that supports your wellbeing.
That might look like therapy.
It might look like coaching.
It might look like RTT or other forms of deeper work.
But at its core, it’s the same thing:
Choosing not to stay stuck in patterns that are affecting your life.
Everyone has internal experiences they carry
One of the things that surprises people is how universal emotional struggle actually is.
From the outside, people often look like they are coping well.
But internally, many are dealing with:
Anxiety
Self-doubt
Overthinking
Low confidence
Feeling stuck
Emotional overwhelm
Patterns they can’t seem to shift
You are not unusual for feeling this way.
You are human.
Why people delay seeking support
There are many reasons people wait before reaching out.
“It’s not bad enough yet”
“Other people have it worse”
“I should be able to fix this myself”
“What will people think?”
“I’ve already tried things before”
But none of these mean you don’t deserve support.
They simply reflect how easy it is to normalise struggling.
Support is not about being broken
One of the most important shifts is this:
Support is not for people who are broken.
It is for people who are ready for change.
You don’t need to reach a crisis point to deserve help.
You don’t need to justify your feelings.
You don’t need to wait until things feel unbearable.
If something in your life feels heavy, repetitive, or stuck - that alone is enough reason to explore support.
What support actually gives you
Working with someone isn’t about being told what to do or being “fixed.”
It’s about having space to:
Understand yourself more clearly
Recognise patterns you may not have seen before
Feel supported rather than alone with it
Learn new ways of responding
Begin creating real, sustainable change
And importantly - to do it in a way that feels safe and supportive for you.
You don’t have to do everything alone
There is a difference between independence and isolation.
You can be a strong, capable person and still choose to receive support.
In fact, those two things often go hand in hand.
Because when you are supported, you often find you can access parts of yourself that have felt harder to reach on your own.
A final thought
Reaching out for support is not a last resort.
It is a choice.
A choice to understand yourself more deeply.
A choice to stop repeating the same internal cycles.
A choice to create space for something different.
And ultimately, a choice that says:
“I deserve to feel better than this.”
