If you're considering RTT but aren't sure what actually happens in a session, this guide walks you through exactly what to expect — from the first conversation to your personalised recording.
Booking your first RTT session can feel both exciting and slightly nerve-wracking — especially if you've never experienced hypnotherapy before. The unknown can feel daunting, but most clients are surprised by how comfortable and natural the experience feels once they're in it. Here's exactly what you can expect when you work with Sarah.
Before the session itself, Sarah will have had an initial Discovery Consultation with you — a conversation to understand what's going on for you, answer any questions you have, and make sure RTT is the right approach for your situation. This consultation is important: it helps Sarah tailor the session specifically to you, and it means you arrive already feeling seen and understood rather than starting from scratch.
An RTT session typically lasts between 90 minutes and two hours. You can do it from the comfort of your own home via Zoom, or in person if you're based in South Wales. The session begins with a conversation — Sarah will explore what you want to change, how the issue shows up in your daily life, and what you've already tried. This helps to orient the session and begin identifying the themes that may be relevant.
The hypnosis itself is nothing like what you might imagine from television. You won't lose consciousness, cluck like a chicken, or reveal secrets you'd rather keep. You'll simply feel very deeply relaxed — more deeply than you might usually achieve on your own — while remaining fully aware and able to speak. Many people describe it as similar to that state just before you fall asleep, where you're still aware of sounds around you but deeply calm.
In this relaxed state, Sarah will guide you through a process of regression — gently exploring your memories to find the scenes or experiences that are at the root of the belief you want to change. These scenes choose themselves; your subconscious knows exactly where to go. You'll see them clearly and be able to describe what's happening. Sarah will help you understand why you formed the beliefs you did at the time — and then, in the most important part of the session, she will use powerful, carefully chosen language to help you reframe those beliefs and install new ones.
After the session ends, you'll take a little while to come fully back into the room. Many clients feel lighter, calmer, and more hopeful than they have in some time. Before you finish, Sarah will record your personalised audio — typically around 20 to 25 minutes long — which you'll listen to every day for the following 21 to 30 days. This listening period is what embeds the transformation, and it's where the real magic of RTT happens. By the end of the 30 days, most clients find the change has become their new normal.
